Meet the Authors

Alexandra and Isabelle Pappas

Ever since we were small, we have always enjoyed baking and cooking. We started as sous chefs for our dad and slowly climbed the kitchen ladder. Although we eventually got into creating recipes and cooking full meals, we originally stuck to baking. Our cupcakes were and still are the highlights of many of the holiday parties we attend. From 4th of July desserts to reindeer cupcakes, we bake for all holidays and seasons. Our cupcakes brought business to our school bake sales. We’ve learned to use our skills in the kitchen to help benefit other people. When we are not cooking, we enjoy doing volunteer work.

We’ve been volunteering at a nursing home for three years now, and we have formed close relationships with the staff and the residents. Although we assist with all recreational activities, such as cooking classes and art workshops, we are known primarily for our nail art designs. We are the manicurists of the facility, and we look forward to the ladies scheduling appointments. We’ve created a book of nail designs to choose from, and part of the fun of the appointment is seeing which ones are most popular. They can get all sorts of hand painted nail designs, ranging from flamingos in the summer to Frankensteins for Halloween.

In addition to creating nail art designs, we enjoy time with our dog, Daisy, who is a certified therapy dog. Daisy loves meeting new people and the residents love petting her. Daisy also loves going to libraries to help children feel more comfortable reading aloud. When we’re not busy with school and these volunteer opportunities, we still make time to do what we enjoy: our afterschool physical activities, swimming and dancing. Above all else, we love to play with our two dogs, Fuzzy and Daisy, and we make it a point to walk them whenever we have off from school. So, in other words, we go to school, do our homework, enjoy volunteer work, play sports, and follow the SCD- and so can you!
